My Current Views: Revision of Seche Vite, Helpful or Harmful

In 2011, I wrote a post about Seche Vite Topcoat, and whether it was harmful or helpful.  I haven’t blogged since January, 2012. I don’t check on my blog often, but I am aware of the comments made and read them. So, I decided to address the comments in this post, and give an update on my views.

I’ve been debating for the past few months about how I should approach this. Since this post was written,  I have made some changes in my lifestyle. I’m a lot more conscious of what I put into my body, and what I put on my body. For instance, I no longer eat foods that contain ingredients such as bht, bha, azodicarbonamide, and dyes such as yellow 5, yellow 6, to name a few. I’m just a lot more aware of what chemicals are put in products and I now choose to be proactive about what I purchase and how it affects my health. I’m not saying that I have been negatively affected by such products, but I feel better about myself when I attempt to live healthier.

In respects to the article, I hadn’t read it in sometime. I really hoped I didn’t give what seemed like an endorsement of Seche Vite.  At the time, with the information I was given, I felt that the amount of toulene presented in the topcoat wasn’t extremely harmful. And perhaps it isn’t. I still haven’t used Seche Vite, and now that I am more health conscious, there is no way I would use it, however miniscule the risk would be for adverse reactions.

I do have a couple of topcoats that I really like. Loreal’s topcoat is really good, except that it got thick and goopy when there was about 1/4 left in bottle and wouldn’t apply smoothly. Right now I’m using Nina Ultra Pro’s Topcoat I found at Sally’s and so far no complaints here.

Anyway, all that being said, I am not a healthcare professional. I’m not a scientist. This is a recreational blog. I’m just someone who adores nail polish and nail polish accessories (shout out King of the Hill)! I had some questions, found some answers, and thought I would share. My opinions change as my awareness grows.  As always, please follow manufacturer instructions when using any product.

A Look Back: LacquerGlamour Fails and Semi-Fails of 2011

I thought it was a good idea at the time...

The end of the year is upon us already! Time sure does fly. I learned a lot about nail polish, nail care, and nail art in 2011. Throughout this year I have definitely stretched my imagination and skills as far as nail talent goes and I enjoyed it all.

Since learning isn’t without failures, there are plenty of nail looks I have attempted that just didn’t turn out right. Even though I didn’t document the majority of them, I do have some embarrassing pictorial evidence of nail looks that were horrible from the jump, or nail looks that were ok until I saw the pics of them that captured every flaw I didn’t notice at first.

There are also plenty of nail looks that I loved, but the pictures that I took didn’t turn out right. Either the lighting was off, or the “prop” idea I had just didn’t translate well.  One thing that I have learned is that just because a picture looks good initially, once I reduce it down to size, and insert into a post, it doesn’t always capture the essence and awesomeness (in my mind) of the original size. Because of that, a lot of post I had chosen to do got pushed aside.

So for every pic that I post, there are probably 100 or more pics that I had taken, and at least half of those got deleted, so that means that I have a plethora of nail pics on my computer. I decided it was the bench warmers time to shine, and that it’d be fun to look back and share what I deemed not up to par and didn’t make it this past year onto the pages of LacquerGlamour, for whatever reason.

So here we go in no particular order:

I liked this purple ombre look, but I didn't like the way any of the pics I took turned out.

Poppin’ Nail Color Of The Week: NYC New York Color in a New York Minute Quick Dry Nail Polish in Chinatown

If I could only wear two nail colors in the winter, the first would be a deep, seductive burgundy, and the second would be a ravishing dark plum (more like eggplant, but who finds those ravishing).

Random Sparkly Blue Nails

Nothing special about this post, just sharing my nails from a few days ago. I did my nails in Essie Aruba Blue and even though I love it, after a couple of days I decided that I needed sparkly nails in my life. I put on a couple of coats of glitter polish, and there you go.  I took these pics with the flash on so you can really see the blingtasticalness (it’s a word now!) of it all.

Nicole by O.P.I. Kardashian Kolors Out at Wal-Mart

They're everywhere!

A while back I mentioned that the Kardashians were coming out with a nail polish line with O.P.I., and here it is. I didn’t realize that it would practically be the whole flipppin’ clan though! The picture cut off the last two sisters, but it’s from the mom all the way down and they all have their own little nail colors. I’m not a fan of the Kardashians (especially lately) so I don’t think I will be purchasing. However, I did see some colors that I would totally buy. Maybe I can find some dupes.

Out of all six, I think I like Kim’s the best. Her colors are all staple nail polishes with hints of glitter or shimmer. My least two favorites are from Kourtney and Kris. Totally blah.

I didn’t get close up pics of all the kollection (see what I did there). You can check out the whole line here, but here are the ones that I would buy, if I chose to support them.

Short Nails Are Boring: My Woeful Few Weeks of Nail Blahness

I guess....

I’ve had two realizations: that my nails look better longer, and that nail art should be reserved for medium to longer length nails. Though I have seen some amazing nail art for short nails on YT, they didn’t look amazing on me. Perhaps my ineptness at mastering the nail art medium has something to do with it, but I think it has more to do with my long skinny fingers. It just looks better to have long nails.

The proverbial light bulb popped up a few weeks ago after I clipped my fingernails straight to the nub (I was nipping flesh with the nail clipper, it was that close). I haven’t clipped my nails that short in a while cause I usually like to have a little something to work with, but wow. Although it was nice to be able to have my nails out of the way, I paid the price with boring looking nails. Plain nail polish looked just, plain. Nail art was a joke. I was clueless.

I finally had an idea to just focus on glitter. So the few times I have worn nail polish, I chose to rock some variation of nail polish layered with a glitter or sparkly polish on top. It seemed to be the only thing that I could figure out that looked decent on my short nails, even though I felt like my 10-year-old niece.

My niece would totally rock this...

I really don’t know how I wore just plain nail polish on my short nails back in the day, cause now it just seems so boring. I guess I can blame YT and all those nail art tutorials for giving me all them fancy ideas.

I shake my fist at them…

Anyway, I can say that this gave me a chance to use some nail polish that I had just sitting around, and spawned a glittery nail polish kick, so not all was lost. What do you do with your  nails when they are short? How do you make your nails look interesting until they grow out?

My New Best Friends: Beauty Secrets Manicure Nail Polish & Art Wheels

Can you tell I've been in glitter mode lately?

Have you ever bought something and asked yourself how you ever lived without it before? That’s how I feel about Beauty Secrets Manicure Nail Polish & Art Wheels. They have completely transformed my life! My nails have been rescued thanks to these and life is easier.  Having them has truly been a blessing. I must have been seriously slow to have just recently discovered them (thanks to YT).

I NEED them because I’m forever playing around with nail polish. After a six or seven color changes a night, including all of that nail polish remover that gets used, the nail bed starts to get irritated. Not only that, but my nails were beginning to look stripped and unhealthy.  The past month I actually had to wear my nails bare  and only wear polish every other weekend, because they badly needed a respite from all the crap I was doing to them. I always feel so naked without nail polish so it was traumatic…

Now I can play around as much as I want and not have to worry about it. The only time I really experiment on my nails now is when I wanna try a french manicure look. It’s kinda hard to get a straight line on those nail tips, but that’s minor. It’s also pretty cool that you can just place one nail tip over your own and  can get an idea of how whatever look you came up with will look like on you.

For a pack of 10, I paid 5.39  with my Sally’s card (regular price is 5.99), and each wheel has 18 nail tips to play with. That’s a pretty good deal I think, and worth every penny.
